SUMMIT, MS – The Lady Indians' rally came up short in a 4-3 loss to the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears on Saturday.
Anna Grace Ward (Mooreville) netted a pair of goals in the first half to help the Lady Indians (0-1) take a 2-1 lead at the break. Keeper Anna Kate Trost (Oxford) had the assist on Ward's second goal.
Southwest (1-0) quickly scored back-to-back goals to take a 3-2 advantage early in the second half. The Lady Bears added what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal to go up 4-2 with less than four minutes left in the match. Brianna Huckaby (Saltillo) scored in the final minutes of the match, but Southwest was able to hold on to pick up the win.
Trost had six saves and allowed four goals in the complete game effort.
The Lady Indians will travel to No. 3 Jones College on Friday.
