Fulton, Miss. – After an hour weather delay the Itawamba Community College women's soccer team was able to open the season with a 5-0 win in the rain over Southwest Tennessee Monday afternoon.
It was a slow start to the game as the team battled the conditions, but the Lady Indians (1-0) were able to net the first goal of the season with 11 minutes left until halftime as Beth Lloyd (Failsworth, England) beat the keeper for her first collegiate goal.
Sophomore Brianna Huckaby (Saltillo) gave the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead with six minutes left in the opening half as she headed one into the net off a corner kick from Lloyd.
Huckaby would strike again in the second half for her second goal of the day with 30 minutes remaining in the contest.
Three minutes later, Addison Pletzke (Clinton) score the first goal of her career at ICC to extend the lead to 4-0.
Lloyd scored the game's final goal on a penalty kick with just over 16 minutes left in the contest.
Next up for the Lady Indians is a home game against No. 17 Mineral Area Sunday at Noon.
