Lady Wolves Come Up Short Against Lady Eagles
UTICA – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball resumed conference play with a road game against Hinds on Thursday, February 20. The Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Lady Wolves picking up a 64-57 win.
"I felt like we came out relay flat in this game from the tip off and we were never able to recover from the slow start," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "We did a very poor job defensively allowing Hinds to get some easy baskets."
The first quarter saw both teams struggle offensively as the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves, 11-7, to hold a lead by that margin at the end of play. The Lady Wolves then rebounded in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Bulldogs, 17-16, but the Lady Bulldogs held a 27-24 lead over the Lady Wolves as they hit the lockers rooms for halftime.
The third quarter was tightly contested between the two teams, but ultimately the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves, 19-16, to push their lead to 46-40 heading to the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter was even closer, but once again the Lady Bulldogs won the quarter outscoring the Lady Wolves, 18-17, to secure the 64-57 win.
"Tyra Johnson gave us some big minutes off the bench in this game and did well in the post both scoring and rebounding," added Stephens.
Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the way for the Lady Wolves with 22 points, six rebounds, and one assist while Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) provided a big spark off the bench with 14 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had nine points, Tyra Johnson (Morton) had six points and a team-leading eight rebounds, Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) had four points, and Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 14-12 overall, 4-7 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Itawamba on Monday, February 24. Tip-off between the Lady Indians and the Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
