MOORHEAD – The Mississippi Delta Community College baseball team saw their 2021 season come to an end on Monday in Moorhead, but not before a doubleheader split with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Delta was behind 15-9 in game one before scoring seven unanswered runs to come back and walk Gulf Coast off, 16-15. The Bulldogs evened the score in game two, defeating MDCC, 16-1.
GAME 1
The MDCC offense exploded for 22 hits in game one, led by Tanner Johnson (Richton), who finished 5-6 with a home run, double and three RBI. He was helped out by Julian Murphy (Ridgeland), who added four hits and two runs of his own in the opener.
Riggs Easterling (Shreveport, La.) and Gage Little (Duck Hill) each had three hits, with Easterling picking up his second walk-off hit in as many games, which was a single this time. He also added a double and five RBI.
Little, who ended the season with a .496 batting average, added a double, home run and three RBI of his own.
Carson Chapman (Flowood) and Kieran Theriot (Vicksburg) each picked up two hits to aid in the 22-hit attack.
Chase Logan (Holcomb) picked up his second relief win in as many contests, tossing three innings and allowing just two runs, which kept the Bulldogs at bay and allowed for MDCC to pull up the miraculous victory.
GAME 2
Little was a perfect 1-1 in the second game to end his incredible 2021 season on a high note, but the Trojans were only able to muster five hits in the nightcap.
James Hill (Indianola) and Logan each hammered doubles, and Hill scored the lone run for the Trojans.
Patrick Martin (Brandon) picked up the loss on the mound in the final game.
MDCC finished the season with a 15-21 overall mark and an 11-17 record in Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) play.
