No. 12 Bulldogs remain unbeaten with another sweep

No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast stayed undefeated Friday by cruising to a 9-0 win over Northwest Mississippi in Senatobia.

The Bulldogs handed the Rangers their first MACCC loss of the season.

"The mindset coming in was that it was not going to be an easy match," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "Those guys can play, and to just play we've been playing. We wanted to stay confident and play as a team. They did that really well."

Gulf Coast improved to 6-0 overall, 5-0 in MACCC play. Northwest is 5-2, 3-1.

The Bulldogs picked up three doubles wins, dropping only six games on three courts. No. 3 duo Jordan Mitchell (Fr., Natchez/Natchez) and Nick Dulaney (Fr., Long Beach/Long Beach) won 8-3.

"Doubles was great," Blackburn said. "No. 3 doubles had a good test, and they really passed. They played well together."

Moritz Stroebel (Fr., Metzingen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss-Schule Reutlingen) was one of two Bulldogs to sweep their singles matches without dropping a set. He did so at No. 3, with Vicente Faria (So., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria de Fonseca Benevides) matching him at No. 2

"Everybody had some really good moments in singles," Blackburn said. "I think we're moving in the right direction as a team. We're playing well together."

The Bulldogs make another trip up north next week, facing Itawamba at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
