No. 16 Indians sweep No. 20 Co-Lin

No. 16 Indians sweep No. 20 Co-Lin

Wesson, Miss. – In their second straight conference road test, the No. 16 Indians took care of business picking up a sweep of No. 20 Co-Lin Saturday.

Game 1: Indians 7, Wolves 5

The Indians took an early lead but took the lead for good in the seventh on their way to the 7-5 victory.

Leading 4-0, the Indians saw their early lead disappear as Co-Lin rallied to score four runs in the sixth and tie the contest at 4-4.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh by Tyler Murphy (Columbus) allowed Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) to score and put the Indians back in the lead, 5-4.

Lane Domino (Fulton) hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth and Murphy later drove in Kylan Carter (Houston) on another sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-4.

Co-Lin was able to plate a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Brady Davis (Hamilton) came in and picked up the save forcing the Wolves into a double play and picked off a runner at first to end the game.

David Rowland (Florence, Ala.) picked up the win after throwing two and two thirds' innings of relief.

Hayden Harris (Pontotoc) and Davis led the Indians offense as they both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Davis picked up an RBI and had a double while Harris drove in two runs.

Game 2: Indians 5, Wolves 0

Game two was all Indians as they picked up the 5-0 win behind a complete game shutout performance from Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton)

Ausbern shut down the Wolves as he allowed only three hits in the seven inning game and struck out three.

The Indians gave him run support to pick up the win in the impressive outing with Mack Scruggs (Tupelo), Davis and Murphy picking up an RBI each. Harris scored one of the Indians' runs courtesy of a balk by the Co-Lin pitcher and Bailey Allbritton (Duck Hill) added a run with his steal of home.

The Indians will be on the road again for their next doubleheader, but it will be in familiar territory as they travel to Booneville Wednesday. ICC and Northeast will renew their rivalry and will play their fourth and fifth meeting of the season.

The Indians opened the season in Booneville and dropped a 5-4 extra inning decision to the Tigers and the team split in Fulton on Feb. 10 with the Indians taking game one 15-13 and the Tigers grabbing game two 2-1.

Their final meetings of the season are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Booneville.
