
FULTON, MS – The Indians used a pair of timely home runs from Kamdyn Taylor and AB Marlar to close the regular season with a sweep of Meridian on Sophomore Day.
Game 1 Recap: Itawamba 3, Meridian 1
The Indians came out on top in a pitching duel against Meridian, winning 3-1 behind a strong outing from Alyssa Clifft.
Clifft was dominant in the circle, tossing all seven innings while allowing just three hits and one unearned run, striking out six.
Itawamba took an early lead in the first inning with a single from Marlar, but Meridian tied it up in the fifth. ICC reclaimed the momentum in the sixth when Taylor launched a two-run home run to left field, sealing the victory.
Taylor had a standout day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Game 2 Recap: Itawamba 4, Meridian 3
The Indians once again found late-game heroics to edge Meridian, 4-3, in the final game of the day.
Trailing early after Meridian scored in the second, ICC battled back to tie the game before taking the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth.
Marlar delivered the big blow with a two-run home run to left field, and Sadie Stegall followed with a groundout that plated the eventual winning run.
Neely Hodum came in to close things out, tossing three perfect innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.
Laklyn Nichols led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, while Maddie Porter added pressure on the base paths with two stolen bases. Marlar continued to shine in the clutch, driving in two key runs for the Indians.
UP NEXT: The Indians will now wait to see who and where they will open the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament next week.
