Coakley homers as No. 21 Bulldogs sweep

PERKINSTON — No. 21 Mississippi Gulf Coast swept a non-conference doubleheader against Florida Post-Grad in run-rule games on Friday at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

The Bulldogs won the opener 11-1 in six innings and the second 12-2 in five.

Brandon Coakley (Fr, Covington, La./Covington) had two hits, including a home run in the first game. Kaden Irving (So, Gautier/Gautier) had triple among his two hits, and Seth Sterling (So, Vicksburg/Warren Central) drove in three runs with two hits, including a double.

Keondre Fields (So, Nesbit/Magnolia Heights) also doubled and had two hits.

Aiden Seymour (So, D'Iberville/D'Iberville), Brayden Scott (So, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) and Nick Hamby (So, D'Iberville/D'Iberville) combined to throw a four-hitter. Scott struck out four in two innings.

The Bulldogs (22-10) exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning to close down the second game.

Layton Eder (Fr, Vancleave/Vancleave) had two doubles, and Landon Holliman (So, Hattiesburg/Sumrall) had two hits with a double. Keilon Parnell (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) also doubled.

James Vines (Fr, Clinton, La./Silliman Institute) struck out seven in three innings while allowing one hit, and Trey McDonald (Fr, Moss Point/Faith Academy) didn't allow a hit in two innings.

It was the first of four straight home doubleheaders for the Bulldogs, who will entertain Copiah-Lincoln on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
