
FULTON, Miss. – The No. 17 Indians earned a conference sweep over Holmes at Andy Kirk Field on Wednesday.
Game 1: Indians 9, Bulldogs 1 (6 innings)
The Indians used a big fifth inning to roll past Holmes in a 9-1 game one victory, in six innings.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a run, but ICC found the equalizer in the bottom half of the inning after Laklyn Nichols stole home. The Indians took the lead in the fourth when Jenna Whitfield singled to score Sadie Stegall.
It was in the fifth when six ICC runs crossed home plate. After Maddie Porter scored on a passed ball, AB Marlar delivered an RBI single that scored Nichols and Taylar Shands followed with a two-run home run. Ella Duhon tripled to score Stegall and Maddie McClendon used an RBI single to bring Duhon home and make it an 8-1 advantage after five.
In the sixth, Nichols scored on an error to secure the 9-1 game one victory.
Alyssa Clifft picked up the win for ICC, striking out eight batters and walking two while allowing one run in a complete game effort.
Duhon led the Indians at the plate with three hits while Shands drove in a team-best two runs.
Game 2: Indians 4, Holmes 3 (8 innings)
The Indians secured the sweep over Holmes in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 win in game two, in eight innings.
ICC got on the board first in the second after Zoe Goodman grounded out to score Taylar Shands. The Indians added another run in the third when Maddie Porter scored on a passed ball.
The Bulldogs put three runs across the plate in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Goodman used a sacrifice fly to score Tayler Graham to tie the game and force extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Neely Hodum scored from third on a passed ball to secure the walk-off victory for the Indians.
Alyssa Clifft was the pitcher of record for the Indians, striking out two batters while allowing two hits in the game's final two innings. Ella Lilly started the contest for ICC, picking up a strikeout and surrendering three runs (one earned) on five hits.
Goodman led the way for the Indians with two RBIs in the contest.
