Gulf Coast falls to No. 1 Jones

After a prolific first quarter offensively, Mississippi Gulf Coast couldn't keep pace with No. 1 Jones on Saturday, losing 98-67 at Ellisville.

The Bulldogs (5-8, 4-8 MACCC) trailed 28-27 after 10 minutes before the Bobcats defense slowed down Gulf Coast.

Jones is 14-0, 12-0 and has clinched the South title and a share of the MACCC championship.

Sharisse Bridges (Fr., Jackson/Callaway) had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead MGCCC. Aniya Saddler (Fr., Columbus/Columbus) made nine of 10 free throws to finish with 17 points.

Gulf Coast led 25-22 with 2:12 to play in the first quarter, but Jones took the lead before the break and never looked back.

The Bulldogs play their final home game of the regular season on Monday. Meridian visits for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Gulf Coast appears to be set to play in the first round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, which starts March 29 with play-in games for the teams seeded 14th through 19th. The Bulldogs appear to be above that threshold and would be headed the first round, which will be played March 31.
