The goal floodgates finally opened for Mississippi Gulf Coast in the second half of its women's soccer game at Copiah-Lincoln on Friday.
The Bulldogs scored all their goals after the break to pull back to even in MACCC South play. Katie Brown (So., Picayune/Home School) scored one and assisted the other two.
"We played well enough to win the game," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "It was a good game for us to get back on track and gain some confidence moving forward. Overall, we're happy with the performance and glad to get out of there with a three-goal win."
MGCCC improved to 2-3, 1-1 South. Co-Lin falls to 1-4, 1-2.
Katherine Dubon (So., Richmond, Va./Manchester) scored five minutes into the second half. Brown picked up her second assist 11 minutes later, with Ashley Preston (So., Wiggins/Stone) netting the goal.
Brown got one of her own in the 76th minute when she took a pass from Alyssa Palisi (So., Diamondhead/Hancock) and rifled a shot of the crossbar that hit the back of the keeper and careened in.
"We possessed the ball most of the game," said Rhodes, "but we just couldn't find the back of the net until the second half."
Friday's game was supposed to be played at Perkinston, but wet field conditions cause by tropical weather forced the change in venue. The Bulldogs will finally play their first home division game Tuesday when Southwest Mississippi visits for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
