No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast swept its MACCC doubleheader Thursday at Meridian, winning the first game 10-2 in five innings and shutting the Eagles out 6-0 in the second.
"We played really well," Bulldogs coach David Kuhn said. "We had solid defense all day with timely hitting. We were able to take advantage of some of their miscues."
Emaleigh Coates (So., Lucedale/George County) had a great day at the plate and a great Game 2 in the circle. She finished 4-for-7 with a double and two RBI. She threw a two-hit shutout, mowing down 13 by strikeouts against one walk.
Kristian Jones (So., Southaven/DeSoto Central) also had four hits, including a double, and she drove in three runs. Grace Allgood (So., Hurley/East Central) had three hits, a double and an RBI.
Gulf Coast improves to 11-12 on the season, and the Bulldogs are 3-1 in the conference. Meridian falls to 8-9, 0-4.
MGCCC returns home for a Saturday doubleheader against Northwest Mississippi. First pitch will be at noon. The games will be streamed at https://livestream.com/mgcccbulldogs/events/10237134.
