River Continues to Dominate on Day 1 of the NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, GA- The action continued on Friday, February 21 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, and game three was yet another dominant performance for the River as they capped off the day with a 5-0 shutout victory over Pearl River Community College.

Indian River wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Kassidy Pontbriant leading off the first inning with an RBI single to set the tone. The lead grew to 2-0 in the second inning when Thaima Maximiliana grounded out, allowing another run to cross the plate.

J'dah Girigorie was stellar on the mound, earning the win by pitching five and two-thirds innings, surrendering just two hits and no runs while striking out nine and walking one. Hanna Deschambault came in for relief, securing the save for Indian River.

Maximiliana, batting out of the eighth spot, made a key impact, driving in two runs while going 1-for-3. The offense was well-rounded, with Sarah Phipps, Pontbriant, Braylee Shields, Maximiliana, Girigorie, and Presley Smith each collecting a hit. Phipps and Smith also showcased their speed, contributing to IRSC's seven stolen bases.

Indian River's defense was flawless, playing error-free ball to back up their dominant pitching. The River returns to action tomorrow, February 22 at 1:30 p.m. to take on Walters State.
