WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to MACCC play by hosting Pearl River on Monday, February 10. The Wildcats beat the Wolves 73-43.
The Wildcats used an 11-4 scoring run to hold a lead by that margin with 5:19 left to play in the first quarter. The Wildcats then used a 9-2 scoring run to push their lead to 20-6 with 1:53 remaining. The Lady Wolves closed out the quarter outscoring the Wildcats 4-1, but the Wildcats held a 21-10 lead at the end of play.
The Wildcats opened the second quarter with eight unanswered points as they pushed their lead to 29-10 with 6:20 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves responded with a 9-3 scoring run to cut the lead down to 32-19 with 2:23 left to play. The Wildcats closed out the first half with four unanswered points to hold a 36-19 lead over the Lady Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Lady Wolves opened the third quarter with a 6-5 scoring run cutting the Wildcats lead down to 41-25 with 7:28 remaining on the clock. The Wildcats responded with an 11-5 scoring run to push their lead to 52-30 with 3:09 left to play. The Wildcats closed out the quarter by adding two points to their lead while holding Lady Wolves to one point making the score, 54-31, heading to the final quarter of play. The Wildcats outscored the Lady Wolves, 19-12, in the fourth quarter to seal the 73-43 win.
Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the Lady Wolves with 13 points while Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had seven points and Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) had six points.
Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) had five points, Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had four points, while Amari Barned (Tylertown) had three points. Tyra Johnson (Morton) and Chrystance Walters (Pearl) had two points each with Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 13-10 overall, 3-5 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road against Coahoma on Thursday, February 13. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m., at The Pinnacle in Clarksdale.
