Plummer, Jones, Coates have big games

Olivia Plummer's bases-loaded double, Jovi Jones' four-hit game and Emaleigh Coates' 12-strikeout four-hitter propelled No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast to a split against Northeast Mississippi in Booneville.

The Bulldogs (8-11) bounced back from a 5-0 loss in the opener to win the second 7-1 in the MACCC opener.

Plummer (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) drove in the first three runs of the game with one out in the fourth. Kristian Jones (So., Southaven/DeSoto Central) added a sacrifice fly.

Northeast (13-5) got its only run in the bottom of the inning, and the Bulldogs tacked on another run on a single by Jones in the sixth. They got two more in the seventh on Coates' RBI double and a single by Jovi Jones (Fr., Batesville/Magnolia Heights).

That capped off a four-hit game for Jones. Breanna Green (So., Saraland, Ala./Saraland) had a double among two hits.

The Bulldogs were held to four hits in the opener.

Gulf Coast plays the last of five straight road doubleheaders Tuesday with a trip to Meridian. First pitch there will be at 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs finally play at home Wednesday when Kirkwood visits from Iowa before Northwest Mississippi follows Saturday with an MACCC doubleheader.
