Agner smashes 3 HR for No. 8 MGCCC
K.K. Agner had a career day for No. 8 Mississippi Gulf Coast, but the Bulldogs couldn't make leads in both ends of a doubleheader stand up at Coastal Alabama-South on Saturday.
Gulf Coast lost the first game 6-2 and the second 9-8 in Bay Minette, Ala.
The Bulldogs (3-4) play their first home games of the season Tuesday. Mississippi Delta visits Ross-Smith Field for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The Sun Chiefs never got Agner (So., Horn Lake/Magnolia Heights) out. She went 4-for-4 in the first game with a homer and a double. She singled in the third to drive in the first run, then mashed her first homer in the fifth for a 2-0 lead. She also had two walks.
Coastal Alabama scored six times in the sixth inning to take the opener.
Agner hit a two-run homer in the first inning of the second game, and Darcy Novak (So., Hurley/East Central) had an RBI to make it 3-0.
After Coastal Alabama scored four in the bottom half of the frame and another in the second, Novak had a two-run single in the third to tie it up.
Agner's third homer was a two-run shot in the fourth, but Coastal Alabama tied it up again in the bottom of the inning and got two more in the fifth for a 9-7 lead.
The Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh, and Layne Turan (So., Gulfport/West Harrison) got one across with a sacrifice fly. That was it, however.
