Lady Wolves Beat Rangers to Advance in Region 23 Semifinal

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team continued their play with a winner's bracket game against Northwest on Monday, May 5. The No. 1 seed Lady Wolves beat the No. 5 seed Rangers, 6-3.

The Lady Wolves wasted no time starting their scoring as they plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning with Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) smashing the first pitch she saw over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run, her eighth of the season, to take the lead, 1-0. Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) then drew a walk while Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) stepped up to the plate, took one swing of the bat, and crushed a 1-2 pitch over the fence in right centerfield for a two-run home run, tying her for the team lead at nine on the season, increased the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Wolves then added two runs in the bottom of the third as Efferson was hit-by-pitch to reach base with one out on the board. Later in the inning, Efferson scored on a two-out, RBI-double by Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA) who then scored on an RBI-single by Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) making the score, 5-0.

The Lady Wolves added their final run in the bottom of the fourth as Phillips stepped up to the plate with one out on the board, took one swing of the bat, and crushed a solo home run over the left field fence for a solo home run, her ninth of the season tied her for the team lead, making the score, 6-0.

The Rangers then scored three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead down to 6-3 and then retired the Lady Wolves in order in the bottom half. However, the Rangers then went groundout, groundout, strikeout in the top of the seventh to secure the victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled ten hits as a team with Kynlee Madere leading the way going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Brelie Phillips and Emeri Warren had two hits apiece with Olivia Banes, Taylor Efferson, and Morgan Chisolm added one hit each. Phillips and Efferson led the Lady Wolves with two RBIs apiece while Madere and Warren had one RBI each.

Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) got the start and improved to 20-0 on the season while pitching five innings and allowing two runs, both earned, on seven hits with three walks while Taylor Efferson pitched two innings of relief allowing one earned run on one hit with one strikeout.

Co-Lin improves to 42-4 and will face off against Northwest in the Region 23 Semifinal finals on Tuesday, May 6. First pitch between the Lady Wolves and Rangers is set for Noon at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson with the Lady Wolves needing one win to secure their spot in the Region 23 Championship.
