Men's hoops heads into backstretch

MOORHEAD – The Mississippi Delta Community College men's basketball team is heading into the backstretch of Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) play and have split the last two contests they have played.

Delta traveled to Holmes Community College on Monday night and fell to the homestanding Bulldogs, 68-50. MDCC played host to heated rival Coahoma Community College in their previous contest on Feb. 25 and defeated the Tigers, 63-58.

In the Monday night loss to Holmes, it was Tailor Anderson (Clinton) who led the way offensively for MDCC. The sophomore guard finished with a team-leading 14 points on five-for-eight shooting from the floor.

Shamarvious Hodges (Indianola) finished in double digits as well, as the sophomore guard had 10 points, to go along with two rebounds and two assists.

MDCC vs COAHOMA, 2/25

Freshman guard Ja'Kya Black (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) had a big night for the Trojans in the five-point win over Coahoma, as he was a perfect five-for-five from the floor, including a four-for-four effort from the three-point line. He also grabbed three rebounds and finished with two steals.

Darien Wallace (Ocean Springs) had 16 points and Chavis Banks (Yazoo City) had 13 points and seven rebounds to pace the Trojans.

UP NEXT

MDCC (3-7) travels to West Memphis, Ark., to face Faith Prep at 6 p.m. The Trojans return home on Monday, taking on Northwest Mississippi Community College at 6 p.m.
