Rakeya Travis' second home run of the first game set No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast on its way to a sweep at Hinds on Wednesday, and Kristian Jones' tremendous Game 2 closed it out.
The Bulldogs won 9-6 on Travis' three-run homer in the seventh, and Jones (Fr., Southaven/DeSoto Central) went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in a 12-0 victory in six innings.
Gulf Coast stayed perfect in MACCC play after its second doubleheader sweep. The Bulldogs are 8-4 overall. Hinds falls to 2-6, 1-1.
Jones hit a two-run double in the fifth inning of the opener, and Travis (So., Poplarville/Poplarville) drove her in with her first dinger for a 5-2 lead. Hinds would tie the game at 6 in the sixth inning before the game-winner from Travis. She went 2-for-3 with five RBI.
Sarah Brannan went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
In the second game, Jones led the offensive barrage. Travis drove in two more runs, and Briana Shores (So., Richland/Richland) and Breanna Green (Fr., Saraland Ala./Saraland) also had two RBI.
Abby Vance (Fr., Calhoun City/Calhoun City) picked up the win with a four-hitter. She struck out four in the shutout.
Katie Mitchell (So., McCool/Kosciusko) got the win in relief in the first game.
Gulf Coast travels to Northwest Mississippi for another MACCC doubleheader Saturday. First pitch in Senatobia is set for noon.
