
Tennis Drop Matches Against Northwest
SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Men's and Women's Tennis teams took to the road for their MACCC opener against Northwest Mississippi on Friday, February 14. The Lady Rangers and Ranger took both matches as they went down to the wire by identical 5-4 scores.
In the women's match, the Lady Wolves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as they swept all three doubles pairings with Yariange Bello (Caracas, Venezuela) and Munashe Bera (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) taking one doubles at 9-7, Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Sophie Sisson (Moss Point) winning two doubles at 8-6, and Ann-Clark Van (Jayess) and Allie Grace McNeil (Brookhaven) winning three doubles at 8-3.
Yari Bello then got the Lady Wolves a fourth point taking the top singles match with 7-5, 6-2 victory. However, the Lady Rangers ran the table in the other five singles matches as Munashe Bera lost 6-6 and 7-5 in the second singles match, Geogrina Labusch fell 6-4 and 6-4 in third singles, Sophie Sisson dropped the fourth singles match 6-2 and 6-0, Ann-Clark Van fell in fifth singles 6-0 and 6-2, while Allie Grace McNeil dropped sixth singles at 6-3 and 7-5.
In the men's match, the Wolves trailed 2-1 after the doubles match with the lone win coming from Ege Altas (Istanbul, Turkey) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) in the one singles match at 8-4. Robert Adcock (Brookhaven) and Mason Brand (Mantee) dropped the second doubles match at 8-5 while Simon Cooper (Sumrall) and Tristin Rollins (Brookhaven) dropped third doubles at 8-4.
In the singles matches, the Wolves gained three points as Ege Altas took the top singles match with a 6-1 and 6-2 victory while Bucek took second singles with two 6-3 set wins and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) won six singles at 6-2 and 6-3. The Rangers clinched the match with three wins in singles as Robert Adcock lost third singles with identical 6-3 set scores while Simon Cooper dropped fourth singles at 6-1 and 6-0 while Mason Brand lost fifth singles after forcing a tiebreak in the first set but dropping it 7-6 and the second set was 6-4.
Both teams are now 0-1 overall and in MACCC play and will return to action on the road against Hinds on Tuesday, February 18. The matches are set to start at 2 p.m., in Raymond.
