Baldwin put up some impressive numbers at Griffin High-School his sophomore and junior seasons. He was named All-American, All-Region, Super 11 in Georgia, Army All-American and Blue Chip All-American. He only played two games his senior year, though, due to a knee injury. In 1988, the Holmes Bulldogs finished the season with a record of 9-1 and participated in the Texas Shrine Bowl. Baldwin rushed for 1,524 yards and 15 touchdowns and was named second team All-American and finished second in the nation in rushing. In 1989, he transferred to the University of Mississippi. He led the Rebels in rushing and scoring in the 1989 and 1990. The Rebels went to the Liberty Bowl in 1989 where he was named MVP and offensive player of the game. During his senior season Baldwin broke a 40-year-old rushing record by rushing 249 yards in one game. Accomplishments as a senior included All-American, SEC Player of the Week four different times, runner-up for SEC Player of the Year, SEC first team and second in rushing. He scored 11 touchdowns on the 163 carries. He caught 14 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns. He was selected in the fourth round by the Minnesota Vikings. He then played three seasons for the Cleveland Browns, where he had 1,872 yards in kickoff returns. He returned 30 kicks for 675 yards in 1992, 24 for 444 in 1993 and 28 for 753 and a touchdown in 1994. He was then traded to Carolina in 1995, where he ran 14 kicks back for 316 yards. He finished his career in Baltimore, where he had 20 returns for 405 yards in 1996. He was named Special Teams Player of the Year in 1993. Baldwin now resides in his home state of Georgia.
