Top Headlines: MACCC teams head to NJCAA Region 23 Softball Tournament

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (BRACKET | TOURNAMENT CENTRAL) – It’s no wonder they call Jones College “Winnersville.” Come next Sunday, a winner will be crowned in the 2023 NJCAA Region 23 Softball Tournament. And, the No.5 Bobcats will again play host to postseason play after ending the regular season as the MACCC Softball Champions for the 13th season. The tournament runs May 9-14 at Community Bank Park, with nine of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference teams joining LSU Eunice to compete for the crown.

Holmes will face Itawamba in Region opening round
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will face the Itawamba Community College Indians in the first round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament on Tuesday, May 9 at Jones College in Ellisville at 4 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season, 27-19 and 15-13 in MACCC play while the Indians finished the regular season, 29-16 and 16-12, in the MACCC. Holmes and Itawamba squared off on March 15 and split the two contests. Itawamba won game one, 9-8, while Holmes won game, two, 7-2.
Bulldogs gear up for rugged Region 23 Tourney
PERKINSTON — The strength of the field at the NJCAA Region 23 Softball Championship is something to behold. Half the 10-team field is in the NJCAA Division II Softball Top 20, and two others are in the next five teams receiving votes.
The entire field is in the top 20 D-II teams in the Massey Ratings, a computer ranking used by the region to help seed the tournament. The tournament starts Tuesday, with Mississippi Gulf Coast playing East Central in the second-and-last game of the first day in Ellisville. It's scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
"It's tough, 1 through 10," Gulf Coast coach David Kuhn said. "It's unbelievable. It's crazy that East Central is the 10th seed. It's crazy we're seventh. I feel like anybody can beat anybody. It's going to be tough."
Itawamba to compete in NJCAA Region 23 Tournament
Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College softball will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament at Jones College starting Tuesday, May 9.
The Tournament is a 10-team double elimination format and the Indians (29-16) will face Holmes Community College in the first game of the tournament at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
In the regular season, the Indians split the doubleheader with the Bulldogs winning game one, 9-8, and dropping game two, 7-2.
