NJCAA Region 23 Women's Tennis Tournament Day 1 Headlines
Ellisville, MISS (TOURNAMENT CENTRAL | LIVE STATS) - The 2023 NJCAA Region 23 Women's Tennis Tournament kicked off on Friday, April 14 in Ellisville, hosted by 2023 Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Champion Jones College.

Ellisville, Miss. - No. 22 Itawamba Community College women's tennis picked ups thrilling 5-4 win over No. 24 Copiah-Lincoln Community College in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 23 Championships Friday.
Five of the matches had tie breakers with four singles matches going three sets.
The Lady Indians took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning the No.1 and No. 2 match ups.
No. 12 Bulldogs win 5-0 in quarters (via MGCCCBulldogs.com)
ELLISVILLE — No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast started later than scheduled Friday, which isn't uncommon in the postseason tournament, but the Bulldogs quickly took care of business against Northwest Mississippi.
Gulf Coast won 5-0 in the last quarterfinal of the NJCAA Region 23 Women's Tennis Tournament.
"There's always a little pre-tournament nerves that come into play, but they shook those off in doubles and steamrolled after that," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "I'm proud of the girls. They came ready to play."

ELLISVILLE — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Kendall Burn and Bayley Askin were named to the All-MACCC Women's Tennis team on Friday afternoon.
The duo picked up their awards at ceremonies held during the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament before the Bulldogs played their quarterfinal match.
The Gulf Coast team also picked up its MACCC runners-up trophy.
Eight players from the 11-team conference were named All-MACCC. Gulf Coast, Jones and Meridian each had two players.
Northwest Women Fall to MGCCC in Region 23 Tourney
ELLISVILLE - Postseason play came to an early end for the Northwest women's tennis team, as the Lady Rangers dropped a 5-0 decision in the Region 23 quarterfinal round to No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast on Friday.
MGCCC jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after sweeping doubles play, with the closest match coming at No. 1 doubles in an 8-3 loss for Amelia Anding and Grace Ann Wade. The Lady Rangers then dropped a pair of 6-0, 6-0 losses on courts five and six in singles play, allowing the Mississippi Gulf Coast to clinch the shutout win.
Northwest fell to 4-10 with the loss, but impressively made the postseason in the first year of coach Will Irvin's revival of the program.
Lady Bears fall to No. 12 Jones in Region 23 postseason tournament
ELLISVILLE — Despite giving a valiant effort, battling against No. 12 Jones, the Lady Bears were out-matched by the Lady Bobcats Friday in the first round of the Region 23 Playoff Tournament, falling to the tournament hosts.
Afterward, Women's Tennis head coach Joyce Mabry expressed how proud she was with her team not only making the postseason but battling a tough opponent in the opening round.
The Lady Bears wrap the season with a 5-9 overall record.
