Pearl River volleyball opens 2023 season with a sweep
POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River volleyball team got its 2023 campaign started in the best way possible Saturday afternoon, making quick work of Coastal Alabama East, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-17).
"I think the best thing we did today was keeping our heads while working through tough spots," head coach Haley Chatham said. "We didn't panic, we didn't repeat the same errors too many times, and we utilized our options well. That's the experience factor our sophomore group is bringing this season."
New State-of-the-Art Video Board Coming to Joe Renfroe Stadium
RAYMOND, Miss – Coming this fall, Hinds Community College's Joe Renfroe Stadium will have a new addition, one of the largest video and scoreboard displays in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).
The new state-of-the-art Daktronics 32' x 16' video board atop a 32' x 4' ribbon scoreboard was approved by the Hinds Community College Board of Trustees at their regularly scheduled meeting in July.
"The new scoreboard is another example of our continued commitment to making the experience for student-athletes at Hinds the very best. Our old scoreboard served the college well for many years; however, the new scoreboard will be much easier to see, to program and will align nicely with our vision to update all of our athletic facilities," said Hinds President Dr. Stephen Vacik.
Richardson's hat-trick helps Jones to 11th straight home win
ELLISVILLE – Taylor Richardson's penalty kick attempt was denied in the game's 3rd minute, but he would respond with three goals for his first career hat-trick to help No. 5 Jones to a season-opening 7-2 victory over Southern Union State.
It marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs which are 284 miles apart.
Jones won its 11th straight home match to start the 2023 campaign 1-0.
It's rare to see two penalty kicks in a game, but Saturday's contest witnessed two in the first five minutes.
A hand ball in the box setup Richardson's attempt and a foul whistled on Jones allowed Patrick Guffey and the Bison to convert their PK for an early 1-0 lead.
