Bobcats receive College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award
KANSAS CITY – The Jones College women's soccer team has received a prestigious award.
The Bobcats have been awarded the United Soccer Coaches 2023 College Team Ethics and Silver Sportsmanship Award.
Jones was one of only 26 teams to earn the Silver Sportsmanship Award and is the only MACCC team – men or women - to receive the honor.
Bobcat head coach Dolores Deasley said her team was deserving of the award.
"To play with class and hold ourselves to a high standard both on and off the field is something that is preached every day in the life of a Bobcat," she said. "These girls have represented the program and college with pure class all year long and for that we are extremely proud. It is an honor to be named among only 26 teams in the country to receive this award from the United Soccer Coaches."
Lydia Sutcliffe Named Next Hinds Women's Soccer Coach
RAYMOND, Miss. – Lydia Sutcliffe has been selected as the next Head Coach for the Hinds Community College Women's Soccer program.
Sutcliffe stated, "I am absolutely delighted at the opportunity to be entrusted in the leadership role of the women's soccer program here at Hinds, I have been at Hinds for some years now and really love working with the students, players, staff in the college and overall community here in Raymond. My vision is to guide our student athletes to success in the classroom, develop their life skills and motivate them, being more competitive on the soccer field. I will incorporate the college's mission and values into the women's soccer department, with integrity and accountability being most important. I express huge gratitude to our president, Dr. Vacik, our athletic director, Nathan Werremeyer and administration for their trust and belief and I'm so excited to continue to work in such a great college and athletic department."
Northwest Cheer, Dance Bring Home National Titles
RLANDO - With the word "magical" often used to describe Walt Disney World Resort, it was only fitting for the Northwest cheer and dance squads to experience a magical weekend of their own, with both teams taking home national championships at the UCA/UDA College Nationals.
Competing at nationals for just the second time ever, coach Patrice Christian's Northwest dance team took home the gold medal in the Open Hip-Hop Finals, marking the program's first-ever national championship. Meanwhile, coach Brandon Casey fielded two cheer squads for the first time ever, with the all-girl team taking home the gold medal in the open finals.
