Lady Bears eager to get 2024 season underway
The Lady Bears Softball Team enter the 2024 season anxious to carry over the momentum of last year, winning four of their last six games. But in order to make another run, Lady Bear head coach Shea Johnson and his staff are tasked with replacing several key contributors, especially in the pitching circle.
"We're very talented in the circle," he said. "We have some freshmen that we will lean on early that have the ability and I think that those freshmen in the middle will have to grow into it but coming off of a great fall I really expect great things. I think that this team is a playoff caliber team that can make it to the regional playoffs."
Jones men's tennis expects another quality season
ELLISVILLE – Jones College has been a major force in MACCC tennis for several years.
The men's team won the conference last year and finished tied for 10th in the NJCAA Division I Tournament – it's highest ever finish in Division I. The women's team has won three straight MACCC and Region 23 titles.
Eighth-year head coach Brooks Buffington believes the teams will continue their strong play in 2024.
"The outlook for both teams is bright," he said. "Both teams should be in position to contend for a conference and regional championship. They also have the capability of finishing in the top 10 nationally. They have looked solid in practices, but we have dealt with a lot more injuries than in the past. If we can stay healthy, we should have another solid year."
