Lady Bucs Dismantle Bobcats in Home Opener
Tuscaloosa- The Shelton State Women's Basketball team continued their hot start with 97-50 victory over the Jones College Bobcats in their home opener.
Leading the charge for the Lady Bucs (3-0) was freshman Janiyah Bone who overcame a slow start to finish the game with 19 points. Makala Hobdy chipped in 15 points behind four 3 pointers and Julie Nekolna finished the game with a 13-point, 13 rebound double-double. Sophomores Jaylen Pleasant (14) and Lameria Thomas (12) also finished the game in double figures.
Head coach Madonna Thompson was suspended from the game due her ejection in the Lady Bucs win over Trinity Valley, leaving assistant coach Collin Hardy to man the sideline for the game. "I couldn't be prouder of our team for their effort today," said Coach Hardy. "While we still have things we have to work on, we are certainly headed in the right direction."
The Lady Bucs jumped out to 10-2 lead to start the game and finished the 1st quarter holding a 30-12 advantage. The 2nd quarter saw the Bobcats (0-2) hold the Lady Bucs to just 16 points but score only 4.
The Lady Bucs used the 3rd quarter to expand upon their 46-16 halftime lead behind an 8-point outburst from Janiyah Bone. Carrying a 76-42 lead into the 4th quarter, the Lady Bucs saw freshman Laylah Davis score 5 points, while pulling down 2 rebounds and grabbing 2 steals.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Monday, November 11th, as they travel to East Mississippi for a men's and women's doubleheader beginning at 5:30 PM.
