Gulf Coast's Victor Moerck Picks Up Another MACCC Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award
Women's Soccer - Goalkeeper
Anna Kathryn Harrell, Northwest Mississippi Community College
(Fr, GK - Tupelo, Miss., 1)
Northwest freshman goalkeeper Anna Kathryn Harrell had a career-defining performance in the Lady Rangers' thrilling 1-0 victory against #1 Holmes last Friday. The Tupelo native tallied six saves and kept Holmes off the board, marking the first time the Lady Bulldogs have been shutout by an MACCC opponent since April 23, 2021. The win also marked the first victory for Northwest against Holmes since October 2014, and the Lady Rangers have outscored their opponents this season by a whopping 95-1 total.
Women's Soccer - Offense
Lauren Sharples, Itawamba Community College
(FR, M - Liverpool, England, 4)
Lauren Sharples (Liverpool, England) had a big game in the No. 18 Lady Indians' win over No. 13 Co-Lin. The freshman had a hat trick scoring three goals and added two assists in the 5-1 victory.
Men's Soccer - Goalkeeper
Will Thompson, Northwest Mississippi Community College
(Fr, GK - Hernando, Miss., 0)
Northwest has won three straight matches and freshman goalkeeper Will Thompson is a huge reason why. The Hernando native helped keep both East Mississippi and Holmes off the scoreboard, as the Rangers combined to score eight goals across both matches. The Rangers are now 4-3 in conference play and within the hunt for a postseason slot.
Men's Soccer - Offense
Victor Moerck, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
(Fr, FWD - Vaerloese, Denmark, 7)
Victor Moerck, a freshman forward from Vaerloese, Denmark, scored five times and added two assists in a 2-0 week for No. 16 Gulf Coast. He had two goals and an assist in an 8-0 win over Holmes, and he netted a hat trick with another assist in an 11-0 win over East Mississippi. He and teammate Kade Smith are tied for the MACCC goals lead with Jones' Taylor Richardson at 13.
Football Offensive Player
Jamari Thompson, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
(So, RB - Pearl, Miss., 1)
Jamari Thompson, a sophomore running back from Pearl, ran 22 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns in No. 4 Gulf Coast's 55-21 win over Pearl River. He also caught a pass for 14 yards.
Football Defensive Player
Billy Pullen, Copiah-Lincoln Community College
(So., DL - Kaufman, Texas, 5)
Billy Pullen was dominant for the Wolves defense in their 20-6 win over the Tigers. The sophomore defensive lineman from Kaufman, Texas finished the game with six total tackles including 3.5 sacks for a total loss of 19 yards. Pullen played an integral part of a Wolves defense that held the Tigers to just 86 yards rushing for the game and 194 total offensive yards.
Football Special Teams Player
Guy Gillespie, Northeast Mississippi Community College
(Sophomore, 16 - Baldwyn, Miss., 16)
Guy Gillespie had a solid special teams night despite muddy field conditions in the second half of Northeast's homecoming win over Holmes. He made a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter, connected on 4 of 5 extra point attempts (one miss was blocked), had 4 touchbacks in 7 kickoffs and averaged 43.5 yards per punt. Gillespie had a punt long of 57 yards with 4 of his 6 punts landing inside the 20-yard line.
