ELLISVILLE – Jones College is on top of the MACCC men's soccer standings again.
With a 1-1 draw Tuesday night against rival Gulf Coast, the Bobcats claimed their fifth MACCC title in seven years and finished unbeaten in MACCC play.
Jones, 10-2-3, extended its unbeaten streak to 13 since August 29. MGCCC fell to 11-2-4.
Scoreless through the opening 45, Matt Reed changed that in the 49th minute.
Xabier Souto-Rodriguez flicked a shot over the keeper's head that bounced just off the post and Reed was there to clean it up for the 1-0 lead.
Victor Moerck drew the Bulldogs even in the 75th minute when he slipped a shot just past a diving Brax Rials in the lower left 90 to tie it, the only shot-on-goal for MGCCC on the night.
Jones dominated the match statistically, outshooting MGCCC 17-5, including 7-1 on net. The teams combined for 28 fouls and seven cards.
David Ruiz Ospina stopped six of seven shots for MGCCC.
Jones will host the Region 23/Gulf South District Tournament Semifinals and Finals, women and men, Nov. 7 and 9. Times are TBA.
