Jones' Chris Robinson, Three Others Inducted into NJCAA Softball Hall of Fame
Charlotte, NC (via NJCAA.org) – The NJCAA has announced four honorees to be inducted into the NJCAA Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Three coaches and one student-athlete have been honored. Read below for more on Doug Chance, Brynn Minor, Chris Robinson, and Courtney Miller.
Doug Chance | Coach | Butler Community College (KS)
Doug Chance served as the head coach of the Butler Community College softball team for 18 seasons. As head coach, the Grizzlies won two national championship titles, 13 Region 6 Championships, and 17 Conference Championships with 13 national tournament appearances. In 2019, he had 10 players receive NJCAA academic honors along with four players earning Academic All-American honors. Throughout his career, he has coached 148 Jayhawk Conference selections, 33 All-Americans, and two recipients of the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence.
In 2017, under Chance's leadership, the Grizzlies set school records in nearly every category with the most conference wins in a season (24), overall wins in a season (58), most consecutive wins (88), fewest losses in a season (1), team batting average (.417), highest national ranking (1), home runs in a season (135), and lowest team ERA (1.20). They still hold the Region 6 record for most home runs in a season.
Chance has been named the KJCCC Coach of the Year 13 times and in the 2016-17 season, set a softball record for the longest winning streak with 88 wins. During the 2021 season, he led the Grizzlies to a 46-game win streak and had four undefeated Jayhawk conference play seasons. Chance stepped down as head coach after the 2022 season.
Brynn Minor | Student-Athlete | Butler Community College (KS)
Brynn Minor was a member of the Butler Community College softball team for two seasons. During her time at Butler, Minor received several accolades including the Betty Jo Graber NJCAA Female Student-Athlete of the Year award, NJCAA DI Softball Player of the Year, NFCA First Team All-American, KJCCC Most Valuable Player, and was an NJCAA All-Tournament Team selection and a First Team All-American in her sophomore season.
During her freshman season, Minor was a pitcher and outfielder for the Grizzlies with a .459 batting average and a 1.00 ERA. In conference play, she had a .520 batting average and led the conference with 39 hits in 24 games. During this season, she also helped lead her team to its first-ever national title and earned NFCA All-America Third Team honors as well as First Team All-Jayhawk Conference DI selection.
In 2017, Minor played at the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia where she helped the NJCAA All-Stars to a 6-6 record.
Chris Robinson | Coach | Jones College (MS)
Chris Robinson serves as the current Athletic Director at Jones College. Before stepping into this role, Robinson served as the head softball coach for 14 seasons. Under his leadership, the Bobcats won nine MACCC regular season titles, seven MACCC Tournament championships, four region championships, and the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship title in 2018. He also led his team to eight national tournament appearances in his final 11 seasons.
Robinson has coached 20 NJCAA All-American selections, 26 NFCA All-Americans, and dozens of all-conference players. Throughout his career, he has helped send 41 players to four-year institutions including several NJCAA Players of the Year and MACCC Offensive Players of the Year.
During his reign as head coach, Robinson became the second-winningest coach in MACCC history with a coaching record of 590-138. Robinson is a three-time MACCC Coach of the Year and a four-time NJCAA Region 23 Coach of the Year. In 2016, his coaching staff was named the NFCA NJCAA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year and in 2021 Jones was awarded the Netting Professionals/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Softball Field of the Year.
Courtney Miller | Coach | Seminole State College of Florida
Courtney Miller served as the Seminole State College of Florida head coach for three decades. Under her leadership, Miller coached 14 NJCAA All-Americans, 23 NFCA All-Americans, 41 FCSAA All-Tournament Players, 53 FCSSAA All-State, 53 NFCA All-South Region, and 120 Mid-Florida All-Conference. On the academic side, Miller had 74 NJCAA All-Academic honorees, 132 NFCA Academic All-Americans, 212 FCSAA Academic All-State, and 321 players named Academic All-Conference.
Outside of coaching, Miller served as the Mid-Florida Conference Chair for 22 years, served as an NJCAA All-American representative for three terms, and in 2023, was inducted into the Seminole County Sports Hall of Fame. Miller is also a full-tenured professor at Seminole State College.
Miller announced her retirement from coaching in April 2024. She ends her extensive coaching career as the third-winningest coach in the NJCAA and leads in wins at the NJCAA Division I level with 1,162.
