Lady Wolves Secure Second Straight MACCC Crown

WESSON (CoLinAthletics.com) – The Co-Lin Softball team hosted Hinds for their final home doubleheader of the regular season. The No. 3 Lady Wolves swept the Lady Eagles and secured their second straight MACCC Championship with the pair of wins taking game one, 10-2, on Wednesday April 24 and game two, 8-3, on Thursday, April 25.
GAME ONE
The first game of the doubleheader saw the Lady Eagles score one run each in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Lady Wolves responded by exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the second as Avery Williams (Olive Branch) stepped up to the plate, took one swing of the bat, and smashed a 2-1 pitch over the center field fence for a solo home run, her fifth of the season, to cut the lead down to 2-1.
Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA) then drew a walk while Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) singled to put two runners on with no outs. Morgan Chisolm (Madison) then hit a two-RBI double scoring Madere and Warren and giving the Lady Wolves a 3-2 lead. Chisolm then scored on an RBI-single by Abby Burnette, who then scored on an RBI-triple by Carson Hughey increasing the lead to 5-2. Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) then stepped up to the plate, took one swing of the bat, and crushed a 1-0 pitch for a two-run home run, her seventh of the season, increasing the lead to 7-2.
That lead held until the Lady Wolves ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Phillips hit a leadoff double to get the offense going. Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) then hit an RBI-single scoring Phillips and increasing the lead to 8-2. Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) then drew a walk while Emma Kate Fimiano (Petal) was then brought in as a pinch runner. The Lady Wolves then pulled off a double steal as Banes stole third and Fimiano swiped second while an error on the play allowed Banes to score. Avery Williams then ended the game with an RBI-single scoring Fimiano and securing the 10-2 victory for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves totaled 12 hits as a team with Avery Williams leading the way with three hits while Brelie Phillips and Morgan Chisolm had two hits apiece with Olivia Banes, Taylor Efferson, Emeri Warren, Abby Burnette, and Carson Hughey adding one hit each. Avery Williams, Phillips, and Chisolm led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two apiece while Banes, Burnette, and Hughey had one RBI each.
Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) got the start and improved to 16-0 with the complete game win while allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
After rain postponed the second game of the doubleheader, the Lady Wolves got off to a fast scoring start as they plated one run in the bottom of the first. Brelie Phillips hit a leadoff single to get the offense going, stole second, took third on a groundout by Olivia Banes, and then scored on an RBI-groundout by Taylor Efferson to give the Lady Wolves at 1-0 lead.
That lead held until the Lady Eagles hit three straight singles with one out in the top of the fourth to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead. However, the lead was short-lived as the Lady Wolves responded with another seven-run explosion in the bottom of the fourth as the scoring was once again started with a solo home run. Efferson crushed her eighth home run of the season on a 3-2 pitch over the center field fence to tie the game at 2-2. Later in the inning, Kynlee Madere singled while Emeri Warren and Emilie Williams (Summit) reached on back-to-back errors to load the bases with one out. Stella Roberts (Raymond) then delivered a bases clearing, three-RBI double scoring Madere, Warren, and Williams and giving the Lady Wolves a 5-2 lead. Later in the inning, Phillips hit an RBI-single scoring Roberts and increasing the lead to 6-2. Banes then stepped up to the plate, took one swing of the bat, and smashed a 1-1 pitch over the fence in centerfield for a two-run home run, her team-leading ninth of the season, to extend the lead to 8-2.
The final run for the Lady Eagles came in the top of the fifth after three straight one-out singles to make the score, 8-3. The Lady Wolves then retired the Lady Eagles in order in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 8-3 game two victory and sweep.
The Lady Wolves totaled ten hits as a team with Brelie Phillips and Olivia Banes leading the way with two hits apiece while Taylor Efferson, Kynlee Madere, Emeri Warren, Emilie Williams, Stella Roberts, and Carson Hughey having one hit each. Roberts led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three while Banes and Efferson had two each with Phillips adding one RBI.
Taylor Efferson got the start and improved to 14-2 with the complete game win allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts.
Co-Lin improves to 38-4 overall, 25-1 in MACCC play, and will finish the 2025 regular season with a road doubleheader against Mississippi Delta on Sunday, April 27. First pitch between the No. 3 Lady Wolves and the Lady Trojans is set for 1 p.m., at The Carl & Brenda Grubb Softball Complex in Moorhead.
