Meridian (8-2, 2-2 MACCC)- 58
BOX SCORE
The Pearl River women's basketball team (14-0 overall; 4-0 MACCC) survived a tough Meridian (13-3; 2-2) team to remain undefeated on the season on Tuesday night. Both teams struggled with turnovers which led to an early back-and-forth game. The Wildcats relied on their post game and production from the bench to pull out the 66-58 win in PRCC's Marvin R. White Coliseum.
"Our bench tonight, four girls in double figures, they only had two," Pearl River coach Scotty Fletcher said. "Our effort was really good tonight, going up and getting boards. Anytime you get 18 offensive rebounds, that gives you second-chance opportunities."
Mississippi Gulf Coast (7-3, 3-1 MACCC) - 64
Northeast Mississippi (3-7, 1-3 MACCC) - 53
BOX SCORE
Mississippi Gulf Coast put a shaky second quarter behind it, and the women's basketball team ran past Northeast Mississippi after the break to win 64-53 in Booneville.
The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs by 12 to take a 27-20 lead into halftime.
"We just couldn't find the bucket," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We didn't have great ball reversals in the second quarter. We went in there at halftime and had a little pep talk, and we were able to start playing our style of basketball and go on a run."
The Bulldogs (8-3) improved to 3-1 in the MACCC and are in fourth place. Northeast falls to 5-9, 1-3.
Holmes (7-3, 3-1 MACCC) - 78
Co-Lin (8-2, 2-1 MACCC) - 75
BOX SCORE
The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs picked up 78-75 win over the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves here Tuesday night.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the MACCC. Holmes travels to East Mississippi on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
Co-Lin led 24-21 after period and 39-37 at halftime. Holmes outscored the Co-Lin, 41-36, in the second half of play to pull out the win.
East Central (3-7, 1-2 MACCC) - 64
Hinds (2-8, 1-3 MACCC) - 43
BOX SCORE
The East Central Community College Lady Warriors never trailed on Tuesday night as the team wiped off a five-game losing streak with a dominant 64-43 win over the Hinds Bulldogs in Decatur. With the win, the Lady Warriors moved to 4-8 overall and to 1-2 in MACCC play while the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 2-11, 1-3.
The Lady Warriors set the tone early in the contest as ECCC built up a 17-3 lead in the first quarter of play. The score was the result of great passing and vision on the offensive end of the floor with several baskets from Faith Guy, Mady Buckley, Lexus Keyes, and Kamyia Russell. On the defensive end, the Lady Warriors locked down Hinds and crashed the boards to limit second-chance opportunities.
Led by Lia Smith, the Hinds Lady Bulldogs came to life in the second frame as they netted 15 points, but the damage was limited as East Central continued to get to the rim offensively. Jacey Cooper and Kennedee Shelton made some key shots early in the quarter to help the Lady Warriors take a 30-18 lead into the locker room.
Midway through the third, Hinds clawed back and cut the lead to single digits, 34-26, but ECCC responded with a 12-4 run to close out the third quarter in control. The lead exploded to as many as 22 in the fourth quarter, 52-30, as the Lady Warriors ran away with the 64-43 victory.
